B.A. (Hons.) Sanskrit

The B.A. Sanskrit programme at CVV is designed to develop a first-level yet comprehensive understanding of the Sanskrit language, the grammatical aspects and the important philosophical schools of thought in India. The programme is designed to give a detailed introduction to various disciplines of Sanskrit.

In order to improve the skill sets and employability of the students, they are taught different courses like Ability Enhancement courses, Skill enhancement courses, Discipline-Specific Minors and Multidisciplinary courses.

Why B.A. Sanskrit at CVV?

  1. The unique feature of this programme is to give a detailed introduction to various disciplines of Sanskrit.
  2. lt places special emphasis on four streams viz. Sāhitya, Vyākaraṇa, Darśana and Scientific Heritage of India
  3. Apart from Sanskrit, the students will be able to secure knowledge of other streams such as Linguistics, Finance, Management, Governance, Psychology and History of Sciences, by opting for the Multidisciplinary courses offered in these areas.
  4. In order to improve the skill sets and employability of the students, they are taught different courses like Ability Enhancement courses, Skill enhancement courses and Discipline-Specific Minors.
  5. Option to choose Honours with Research Degree by doing an intense 12-credit Dissertation (as per NEP guidelines-2020. Honours with Research graduates can get direct admission to PhD)*.
  6. Flexibility to enter or exit the programme at various stages**

* Option only for students who secure 75% marks and above in the first six semesters.

** If a student wishes to leave at the end of the first year, he/she needs to complete a work-based vocational course of 4 credits after the first year (Maybe during the summer vacation. So the total credits earned by the student will be 42 +4 = 46). The student can exit after the completion of one academic year (two semesters) with a Certificate in Sanskrit. If a student wants to leave at the end of the second year, he/she needs to complete a work-based vocational course of 4 credits after the second year (Maybe during the summer vacation.) So the total credits earned by the student will be 84 + 4 = 88. The student can exit after the completion of two academic years (four semesters) with a Diploma in Sanskrit. A student can exit after the completion of three academic years (six semesters, minimum of 124 credits) with a degree in Sanskrit. After the completion of the 4-year B.A. Sanskrit (Honours) Programme, a student can join the third semester of the M.A. Sanskrit programme.
