Chinmaya Vishwavidyapeeth celebrates National Mathematics Day 2020
22 December is celebrated as National Mathematics Day to commemorate the birth anniversary of Srinivasa Ramanujan, one of the greatest Mathematical geniuses. Ramanujan was born on 22 December 1887, in Erode, Tamil Nadu.
Though with barely any formal training in pure mathematics, he made substantial contributions to mathematical analysis, number theory, infinite series, and continued fractions, including solutions to mathematical problems which were then considered unsolvable
His original and highly unconventional works such as the Ramanujan prime, the Ramanujan theta function, partition formulae, theories of divergent series and mock theta functions, have opened entire new areas of work and inspired a vast amount of further research over the years. This natural genius, has left behind 4000 original theorems, despite his lack of formal education and a short life-span (Died: 26 April 1920)
A Problem A Day….to keep your brain in sway!
A 5-day problem solving series on CVV’s social media channels from 15 to 19 December. A unique problem from Ancient Indian Mathematics will be presented for people to solve and respond.
Sridhara Math Contest
An online math contest with the final round on 16 December 2020.
Wednesday Webinar
On 16 December 2020, Shri Vinay Nair, an avid mathematician, founder of Raising a Mathematician and a student of Ph.D. at CVV, will speak on ‘Ramanujan—a self-made genius or one who stands on many shoulders?’ for the students and faculty of CVV.
Webinar: ‘A conversation with Prof. S. Bhargava’
Prof. S. Bhargava, an eminent mathematician with expertise in the works of Srinivasa Ramanujan, will be interviewed by Dr. Ajaykumar K., Assistant Professor of Mathematics, CVV, to understand and know more about the unparalleled legacy of the mathematical genius.
