Vision

The Chinmaya Vishwavidyapeeth, the University for Sanskrit and Indian Knowledge Traditions, recently established by the Chinmaya Mission, is a gem on the crown of Indian Knowledge Traditions. A vision and prophecy that Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda, saint, philosopher and teacher par excellence, expressed 26 years ago, has come to fructification, in the very birth centenary year (2015-16) of the great Master. The Chinmaya University is founded on the principles of spirituality, purity, applicability and innovation, indeed a rock-solid foundation for a man-making education leading to the betterment of humanity. The uniqueness of the Chinmaya University is its commitment to bridge the ancient Indian knowledge Traditions and contemporary knowledge fields, a vision enabling students in India and Overseas to become positive contributors to the society and world at large. The university integrates the best practices of modern pedagogical advances with the beauty of traditional Gurukula model of learning, fulfilling the vision of Swami Chinmayananda of bridging East and West, Past and Present and blending Science with Spirituality and Technology with Tradition.

Unfoldment

The various programmes of the Chinmaya University for the Undergraduate and the Integrated Masters Programmes have commenced in July 2017. The University currently operates from two campuses

Growing the Dream

The main campus of the University is housed in Ernakulam, on the Chinmaya International Foundation (CIF) property, on a 10 acre land. However, this area is not sufficient for future growth trajectory of the University. The Chinmaya University has therefore prospected a new piece of land within Swami Chinmayananda

Academic Block/Department/School

IKT, or Indian Knowledge Traditions, as a composite repository of all knowledge hitherto known or yet unknown to mankind, is a knowledge bank for all modern applications from their traditional sources. Subjects such as communication, linguistics, logic, ethics, governance, astro-physics, etymology, science of medicine, science of weapons, fine arts, politics, architecture, management, commerce and many more can be found in the upavedas, vedangas, upangas, puranas and upapuranas. Some of the greatest discoveries in science find a reference to the Vedas, the substratum of all knowledge, whose universality is proven and appreciated. This repository termed the

Support and Partner

To support the purchase of the land, it will be most befitting for all lovers of Indian Knowledge Tradition and Votaries of Swami Chinmayananda

Classroom

Donors may also choose to donate for a single classroom (class size 30 students). In an Academic Block or within a School there will be many classes or divisions. A donor contributes a sum of ?25 lakhs (US $40,000) for each classroom.

The Class/Division can be co-named with the Donor, for eg: Chinmaya XXX Class

Library

An important and crucial component of the University is the Library. It is proposed to set up a 2,000 sq. meters Central Library in the next 2-3 years, at the main campus in Ernakulam with about 20,000-30,000 books and digital resources for study and research. The nature of the University and its pursuit will determine the quality and complexity of the library facilities. Research will demand stacking and shelving areas for reference books, excellent lighting and seating, distinct reading areas, working areas equipped with copiers and computers as well. Given how reliant we have grown on electronic media, there will be need for specific staff who can guide and expedite copying, not to mention more computers, internet connections, wifi coverage and display media. Keeping growing needs of resources and books, the donation for a digitised, fully equipped library is ?10 crores (US $1.5 million). The Library can be co-named with the Donor; for eg: Chinmaya XXX Library.
