Interaction of CVV Faculty with Brahmasri Devadatta Patil
Brahmashri Devadatta Patil, a renowned scholar of traditional shastras and a recipient of the President’s award, visited the CEG campus on 28th February 2020. Swami Sharadananda Saraswati, Acharya, Sandeepany Kerala, presided over the event and Dr. Gauri Mahulikar, Dean of Faculties chaired the interaction with the faculty.
Brahmashri Patil spoke on various topics related to traditional modes of teaching and learning. He emphasised the importance of the gurukula style of teaching and learning to achieve expertise in a particular shastra. He shared insights on developing a curriculum based on such a mode that could be adopted by modern universities. He also shared his experience on mentoring students and identifying their talents.
Swami Sharadananda Sarasvati, the Acharya of the Vedanta Course in Malayalam, spoke on the importance of in-depth knowledge in the shastras and referred to Sri Adi Sankaracharya’s views on learning the shastras.
The programme ended with the felicitation of Brahmashri Patil by Swami Sharadananda and Dean Mahulikar. The interaction was thought-provoking and fruitful.
Vākyārtha Sadas of Sanskrit Students with Brahmashri Devadatta Patil
Brahmasri Devadatta Patil presided over the vākyārtha sadas conducted as a part of the monthly Śāṅkarī Sabha at Poomukham, Illam on the afternoon of 28th February 2020. The shastra fraternity of CVV, both faculty and students actively participated in the sadas.
The students from the Integrated Masters and M.A. Sanskrit programme presented vākyārthas in the subjects of nyāya, vyākaraṇa, mīmāṁsā and Advaita Vedanta. Brahmashri Patil was impressed with the students’ presentation and urged the faculty members to conduct more such sabhas to enrich the knowledge of the students. He advised students to focus on their core subjects with more enthusiasm and vigour. He cautioned them to stay away from factors that could be detrimental to their svādhyāya (self-study). The vākyārtha concluded with the president’s address to the gathering.
