Urja 2023–annual Intramural Athletic Meet

The annual athletic meet was held with great zeal and enthusiasm on 24th May 2023 at the synthetic track of Maharaja’s College in Ernakulam.  The students from all grades participated in various track events like 100mts, 200mts, 400mts, 800mts, 1500mts, walking, 4x100mts relay, and field events such as long jump, high jump, shot put, discus throw and javelin throw.

The event began with a march-past by all the students, displaying perfect coordination and discipline. Dr. Rahul Sharma (Registrar, CVV) presided over the function.

The Chief Guest, Shri. K. M. Binu, Olympian, Indian track and field athlete, and Arjuna awardee, was welcomed with great pomp and show. In his motivational speech, he advised everyone to participate in the field of sports and also explained the numerous benefits of participating in sports. Dr. Asokan Thayyullathil (Dean of Academics, CVV) presented the felicitation address.

The students showcased their exemplary sportsmanship and displayed their competitive spirit in all the events. The athletic competition gave students a chance to show off their skills. Apart from the sports events, there were some cultural programmes including dance performances which added to the fun. 

The highlights of the event were the final races, where the fastest athletes from each grade displayed their athletic abilities. The winners were awarded medals and certificates for their exceptional performance.

In the highly competitive realm of sprinting, Arjun H. (first year BCom), a promising athlete, emerged as the fastest man in Urja 2023. Arjun’s blistering speed, explosive acceleration, and impeccable technique propelled him to the pinnacle of success in the sprinting events, leaving his competitors trailing in his wake. 

On the women’s side, talented athlete Lubnaa Shibu (first year B.Sc. Applied Psychology) showcased an exceptional display of speed, agility, and endurance, earning her the title of the fastest woman in the Urja Sports Athletic Meet

In the fiercely contested realm of individual performances, Sai Krishna (first year B.Com.) emerged as the individual champion among men.

On the women’s side, the competition was so intense that the title of individual champion women was shared by two exceptional athletes, S. Sarada (third year B.Sc. Applied Psychology) and Karthika Putuval (first year B.Sc. Applied Psychology). Both Sarada and Karthika displayed extraordinary talent, dedication, and unmatched prowess in their respective disciplines.

The closing ceremony of Urja 2023 was a moment of pride and joy for all the participants. The winners were awarded medals and certificates, and their achievements were acknowledged. Agni House was the overall winner of the Urja Annual Intramural Sports and Games and was presented the prestigious Vice Chancellor’s Trophy 2023.

 Urja is a highly anticipated event that showcases incredible sporting talent and fierce competition. However, the efforts of all the participants were appreciated, and they were encouraged to continue their sports activities. The URJA annual intramural sports and games were a grand success and taught us the values of teamwork, sportsmanship, and healthy competition.
