Struggle for Swatantrata and Science
Talk by Sri. Jayant Sahasrabudhe

As a part of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ movement, on 12 May 2022,  NSS unit at CVV organised a lecture on ‘Struggle for Swatantrata and Science’ by Sri. Jayant Sahasrabudhe, National organizing Secretary, Vijnana Bharati in collaboration with Amrit Mahotsav Organizing Committee’, Ernakulam & ‘Swadeshi Science Movement, Kerala.

Sri Jayant Sahasrabudhe highlighted the fact that struggle for swatantrata was carried out in all walks of life and was not merely a political movement. We have strayed from our roots and science was used by the colonial powers to strengthen their position. He recalled how stalwarts like Dr. Mahendralal Sarkar, Swami Vivekananda, Jagdish Chandra Basu, and Jamshedji Tata contributed to the formation and growth of prestigious institutions like the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, Tata steel, etc. These institutions paved way for science to become part of our identity again as Indians. He exhorted everyone to remember all such efforts taken up by our forefathers who contributed to swatantrata in the areas of science so that we may achieve true progress in the challenging times of today.

Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav is an initiative of the Government of India to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of independence and the glorious history of its people, culture, and achievements.  The official journey of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav commenced on 12th March 2021 which started a 75-week countdown to our 75th anniversary of independence and will end post a year on 15th August 2023.
