Master Classes with Gurus

Inauguration

Chinmaya Naada Bindu Gurukula’s (CNBG) much-awaited Master Classes with Gurus 2019 began on 11th October at Chinmaya Vishwavidyapeeth’s Pune Campus. The inauguration began with a prayer and consisted of introduction of CNBG, the Gurus and self-introduction by students. Then, Br. Param Chaitanya, the Resident Brahmachari of Chinmaya Vibhooti, addressed the group. He emphasized the importance of a Guru in every field, and congratulated the students for having taken up the pursuit of music. He concluded that without such a serious pursuit by young students the tradition will not be sustained.

The Gurus for this event, Pt. Vijay Ghate, Pt. Rupak Kulkarni and Vidushi Manjusha Patil, were then invited to address the participants. Each of them mentioned their lineage and talked about carrying it forward by teaching music. Getting the appreciation of the Guru is not easy, they said, and that is what serious students yearn for and work hard for.

Conclusion

The Master Classes with Gurus that began on 11th October, concluded on the afternoon of 13th October, leaving students emotionally, spiritually and musically charged. The three days were filled with learnings, discoveries and amazement – learnings were plentiful with the three maestros giving in abundance; discoveries were made of one’s own talents and also limitations; and there was constant amazement at how the Gurus spoke, performed and behaved with natural ease. Of course, the ease could come only out of merciless practice during their initial learning period.

As part of the workshop, there was a post-dinner scintillating Tabla solo performance by Pt Vijay Ghate (Teentaal), ably accompanied on Harmonium by Shri Tanmay Deochake. These artists were soon joined by Pt. Rupak Kulkarni and Vidushi Manjusha Patil for an engaging bansuri-vocal duet performance. They coloured the stage with the paint of Raga Bageshri, followed by Raga Bhairavi. The audience which included students, faculty, staff of CNBG & Chinmaya Vibhooti, as well as guests, were left spell-bound. The beautiful musical evening closed with sweet milk being distributed to all, on the occasion of Kojagiri (Sharad Poornima)!

A panel discussion with the artists by Asst.Prof. Swapnil Chaphekar gave a deep insight into the lives of these great musicians as well as their passion for the music they live and breathe.

Students gave fond impressions of their stay and learning. The workshop ended with certificate distribution. The Master Classes were held under auspices of Chinmaya Vishwavidyapeeth at its Chinmaya Naada Bindu Gurukula campus.
