Chinmaya Vishwavidyapeeth Expands into the domain of Public Policy and Legal Education

Chinmaya Vishwavidyapeeth (CVV), Kochi, a deemed-to-be University, founded in 2017 on the core values of purity, spirituality, practicality and innovation, has the unique distinction of integrating ancient Indian wisdom with contemporary applications.  In the next academic year, commencing in July 2019, Chinmaya Vishwavidyapeeth will launch three new Masters programmes specially  conceptualised to reform education in public policy and the legal system. Such reform is a dire need at the national level  and these programs have been designed after considerable deliberations with legal and public policy experts from across the country. The three new programmes are:

Chinmaya Vishwavidyapeeth’s School of Ethics, Governance, Culture and Social Systems intends to promote innovative methodologies and an interdisciplinary approach in the quest for knowledge. The goal is to provide long-term solutions  to contemporary issues by drawing from the ever-relevant ancient wisdom.

  • The MA Public Policy and Governance programme aims at imparting to career-oriented participants, the necessary skills and attitude for making positive, purposeful and creative interventions in response to persistent governance problems. In addition, the participants of this programme will be equipped  to handle issues of public policy that involve fundamental values and conflicts. By integrating the best of academic knowledge and practice, the M.A.PPG programme is being launched in collaboration with the Centre for Public Policy and Research (CPPR), Kochi, an expert group in public policy and research with 25 years of experience in this field.
  • Legal Theory is a career-focussed one-year intensive programme for both law practitioners and academicians. It offers cutting-edge knowledge, enhances communications skills and equips students with a comprehensive understanding of the concepts of law without emphasis on any one ideological framework.

  • LLM in International Trade and Commercial Laws integrates practice with learning and is offered to law graduates who desire to work in the field of International Business. The performance of developing countries in international legal disputes, whether commercial arbitrations, investor-state arbitrations or WTO disputes, is abysmal. Chinmaya University aims to nurture lawyers capable of filling this gap with total commitment. The program will cover a broad range of commercially focused modules that draw on the wealth of commercial expertise across academics and industry. Chinmaya Vishwavidyapeeth brings together a galaxy of professors and experienced legal practitioners to ensure that the classroom experience is supplemented with adequate practical training on issues relating to trade and commercial laws.

These three programmes are divided into foundation courses, core courses and electives, which will give participants enough opportunity to decide their area of interest and specialization. Use of experiential learning methodology, weekly interaction with public policy and legal experts, internships, projects and fieldwork integrated with Indian intellectual tradition and modern knowledge are some of the highlights of these programs. The programs are set to commence in August 2019 in the Chinmaya offices in Warriam road, Kochi.

CVV integrates advanced modern pedagogical practices with the traditional Gurukula model. It believes in immersive learning and learning by doing, while emphasizing continuous interaction between teachers and students. Generating well-balanced economic, social, and intellectual capital is the goal of an institution of learning. Education must help students to achieve an all-round development – of body, intellect and heart.  CVV ensures precisely that.
