Session 55 (08 July 2021)

Sri. Srinath Mohandas (Assistant Professor, School of Ethics, Governance, Culture and Social Systems, Chinmaya Vishwavidyapeeth), explored the Markandeya Purana, a central text in the Shakteya tradition of Hinduism, through its fascinating narratives. The text is one of the eighteen major Puranas. The text’s title Markandeya refers to a sage in Hindu history, who is the central character in two legends, one linked to Shiva and other to Vishnu. The talk received a positive response from the participants.

Session 56 (22 July 2021)

Prof. Gauri Mahulikar (Dean of Faculty, Chinmaya Vishwavidyapeeth) spoke on the Agni Purana. The title for the talk was ‘Delving into the Depths of Agni Purana’. The Agni Purana is the celebration of Agni, the Fire God. He is the most revered deity in the Hindu pantheon. Numerous hymns have been dedicated to Him in the Vedas. Prof. Mahulikar guided the audience through the expansive nature of the Agni Purana which encompasses timeless narratives including that of Harishchandra, Pururava Urvashi and many more.
