In the workshop on Qualitative Research Methods, the second day’s morning session started with Prof. Ravi Priya giving an example of a semi-structured interview schedule that is categorised into different domains such as disease, identity and coping. In the interactive session, he discussed the challenges of such research and his experiences from the field. To gain first-hand learning experiences of the qualitative research, participants were asked to develop semi-structured schedules for the research questions identified by them and present it to all for the feedback. Prof. Ravi Priya then assigned a small research project with two research questions to the participants, along with four recognised themes. The session ended with the assessment of the reasons why some of these themes had been identified as being indispensable. The reasons assessed included frequency, emphasis by the participant, definition of the context, critical life events and empathetic connect.
