National Engineer’s Day was celebrated on 15th September at CEG campus, Veliyanad. The programme began with the rendition of a prayer by students of CVV. Dr. Resmi N. G. (Assistant Professor, CVV Institute of Science and Technology (CVV-IST)) welcomed the gathering. After the lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries, Swami Saradananda addressed the gathering about an individual’s inner and outer development. In the inaugural address, the Chief Guest Shri. Dinesh P. Thampi, Vice President and Delivery Centre Head Kerala, Tata Consultancy Services, said that the future is in the hands of the engineers and that engineers should always go with the trend.
As a token of appreciation, a memento was presented to Shri. Dinesh P. Thampi and Smt. Ashita Menon, Regional Head, Academic Interface Programme Kerala, at the hands of Swami Sharadananda.
Dr. Apparao Mukkamala, Managing Trustee of CVV, said engineering is the backbone of medical science. He explained the significance and relevance of engineering in the modern world by quoting examples from real-world situations and stating that without the contributions of engineers and engineering, the world would have not been as what we experience. The insightful talk was equally inspiring and motivating for the audience.
The Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Ajay Kapoor’s video message for the day was presented on screen. Dr. Sudheer Babu, Principal CVV-IST delivered the keynote address with a video on Dr. Mokshagunda Visweshvarayya. Dr. Visvesvaraya is regarded as one of the foremost civil engineers of India. His birthday, 15 September, is celebrated every year as Engineer’s Day in India, Sri Lanka, and Tanzania.
Faculty Representative Prof. C. Vijayan (CVV-IST) spoke about how an engineer should be inspired by his surroundings. The inspirational talk by Br. Ved Chaitanya, who is also an engineer, said engineering is a mindset. A speech on the goals and aspirations of future engineers and their perspective on engineering was given by the students of CVV-IST, Niveditha and Ramana.
In celebration of Engineer’s Day, six competitions were organised for the students of CVV-IST students—Design Thinking, Technical Quiz, Debate, Photography and Oratory. The prizes for these competitions were presented by the Chief Guest, Dr. Apparao, Dr. Sunitha Grandhee, Dr. Sudheer Babu, and Dr. Gauri Mahulikar.
The ceremony ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. P. Rajendran followed by the closing prayer and the singing of the national anthem. Students of CVV-IST, Akahar Athman and Rosemary were the MCs for the event.
