Mental Health Awareness Month—October

As a part of the observance of ‘Mental Health Awareness Month – October’, the School of Philosophy, Psychology, and Scientific Heritage in collaboration with the DeLuna, Psychology Club of Chinmaya Vishwa Vidyapeeth (CVV) organised a week-long of events in and out of campus. The public mental health flash mob and awareness programme was organised as the finale, in collaboration with ‘Maithri, Kochi’ and ‘Kochi Metro Rail Limited’. Maithri is a non-governmental organisation based in Kochi, dedicated to suicide prevention in Kerala. The programme was successfully held on 28th October 2023, from 4.00 p.m. to 4.30 p.m. at the Edapally Metro Station, Ernakulam, Kerala – 682024. Students and faculty members from the Warriam Road campus and representatives of the Maithri Foundation along with the public comprised the audience.

The flashmob and awareness programme was an educational outreach programme conducted to raise awareness among the public about the mental health continuum, reduce the stigma associated with mental illness, and promote help-seeking behaviours and emotional well-being practices.

The event started with Antony Joseph (third year B.Sc. Applied Psychology) playing the guitar to build an audience. People started to gather, taking videos, clapping, and enjoying the music. Then, the flash mob dance began. Music was played and members of the dance club (20 students) began their performance. The performance included songs in Malayalam, Tamil, and English and lasted for 10 minutes. Sneha Vijay, Antony Joseph, and Navami S (third yyear B.Sc. Applied Psychology students) were responsible for the performance and choreographed it.
