Lakshmi Narayana Puja and Havan 2020

Since 2019 the CVV Trust has been performing the Lakshmi Narayana Puja and Havan for the well-being, good health and prosperity of the donors and supporters of Chinmaya Vishwavidyapeeth (CVV). This year it was conducted on 15th January under the guidance of Swami Sharadananda Sarasvati, Acharya, Kerala Sandeepany, at the Illam, in Adi Sankara Nilayam, the maternal home of Sri Adi Sankaracharya.

According to sacred Vedic texts, those who worship the divine couple Shri Narayana and Mahalakshmi will be blessed in many ways, namely: (a) Health and long-life (b) Protection of family and property (c) Wealth.

At 8.45 am, Swami Siddhananda of Chinmaya Kedar and Chinmaya Madhuvanam, in Philadelphia, and the Managing trustee of CVV, Dr. Appa Rao, carried the Lakshmi Narayana murti-s to the Illam in a colourful procession and placed them at the altar in the yagnashala. The stage was set for puja and homam through anga-shudhi and dravya-shudhi.  Milk abhishekam was performed, followed by the shodasha puja. Swami Sharadananda then kindled the sacred agni in the homakunda while chanting Vedic mantra-s. The yajamanas offered various dravyas into the homam.  At the end of the homam, Swami Sharadananda offered purnahuti – the final offering to the sacred fire. This was followed by aarti and the chanting of the shanti mantra.  Swamiji then distributed prasada to all yajamanas.

Swami Siddhananda sang a beautiful bhajan during the rajopachara and shared his experience on the puja and homam.  He added that it was a wonderful treat and a blessing for all those who were present.  The day’s programme ended with everyone partaking mahaprasad at the annakshetra.
