Lit X—Comics and Graphic Novels

Are comics literature? What is the difference between a ‘comic’ and a ‘graphic novel’? What is the language of comics? These are some of the questions that the 18 students of the intensive 6-week course ‘Lit X—Comics and Graphic Novels’ were engaged in grappling with. Along the way, they have read and discussed the work of some of the key authors, illustrators and theorists of the comics genre, including Scott McCloud, Will Eisner, Art Spiegelman, Alan Moore, Orijit Sen, Marjane Satrapi, Hergé, and Goscinny and Uderzo and explored the features of important publications such as Amar Chitra Katha. Apart from critically analysing and studying comics, the students even tried their hand at creating comics of their own, resulting in some excellent stories.

This intensive 6-week course offered by the School of Linguistics and Literary Studies was conducted by Assistant Professor Dr. Saurabh Singnapalli. THe course was open to all and students of CVV could opt for it as a credit course.
