Industry-Institute Interaction Series by CUSEC

The School of Contemporary Knowledge Systems organised a two-day Industry-Institute Interaction Series by the Chanakya Utility Society and Entrepreneurship Cell (CUSEC) at Chinmaya Vishwa Vidyapeeth’s facility at Warriam road in Kochi on 1st and 2nd December 2022. 

The purpose of the first session was to provide basic knowledge and understanding of the Indian Contract Act of 1872. The chief guest of the day, CS Nikhil George Pinto, Partner at Caesar Pinto George Associates LLP, who is also the secretary of the Kochi Chapter of SIRC of ICSI, was invited to take up the two-hour session on the topic, ‘A Pragmatic View on the Indian Contract Act, 1872’. He explained the topic in a way that was easily understandable by the students. The participants were free to ask questions regarding the topic as well as share their viewpoints with the speaker. The topics discussed include a basic idea of what a contract is, how a contract is established, what an agreement is, how contracts are implied in the digital world, etc.

Dr. Rahul Sharma (Registrar, Chinmaya Vishwa Vidyapeeth) felicitated the guest. The Student Coordinator Ms. Goury S., (Third year BCom) introduced the guest and other members present on the dais. The session started with a silent prayer and ended with a vote of thanks by Ann Mary Jiby (First year BCom).

Overall, the first day of the industry-institute interaction series provided good knowledge and information about how laws are applied to a common man’s daily needs and wants.

Shri. Mohanraj T. P, Advocate, High Court of Kerala and Guest Faculty at the School of Legal Studies, Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT), was the guest speaker on day two. He took the students on an informative journey on the ‘Importance of Regulations in Market Thriftiness’.

He started off by refreshing their memory about the different laws for markets and commerce like the Companies Act 2013, Contract Act etc. He explained by placing special emphasis on the Contract Act, its salient features, and how it affects the market, with examples. Then the session moved on to the topic of Information Technology and how one should be smart with passwords to if not outsmart but at least stay from hackers and protect one’s data. This was followed by a question-and-answer session.

The session ended with the felicitation of Shri. Mohanraj T. P. by Dr. Rahul Sharma and a vote of thanks by Ms. Abhirami K. P. (First year BCom).
