The approval of the establishment of a new student branch of IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) under IEEE Kerala, in December 2023, reflects an important accomplishment for the Institute of Science and Technology at Chinmaya Vishwa Vidyapeeth Deemed to be University). This accreditation brings new opportunities and avenues for students pursuing technological and engineering disciplines at the University. The IEEE Kerala Section’s involvement further cements the importance of this development in the vibrant technological ecosystem of Kerala.

The IEEE is the world’s largest technical professional organisation dedicated to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity. The approval of an IEEE student branch at CCVV is a testament to the University’s commitment to fostering innovation and technological excellence by providing a platform for students to engage with the global technical community.

The IEEE student branch will serve as a hub for students to connect with like-minded individuals, industry professionals, and experts in various fields of technology nationally and globally. It will provide a platform for students to enhance their technical skills, participate in collaborative projects, and stay updated on the latest advancements in their respective fields.

Moreover, the IEEE student branch will organise workshops, seminars, and conferences, offering students the opportunity to interact with renowned experts and gain insights into cutting-edge technologies. This exposure is invaluable in preparing students for the ever-evolving demands of the professional world.

Participation in IEEE activities also opens doors for networking and collaboration on a global scale. Students will have access to a vast network of professionals, researchers, and academics, creating opportunities for internships, research collaborations, and exposure to diverse perspectives in the field of technology.

The planning phase involved extensive discussions among University faculty, administrators, and interested students. A core committee of three IEEE faculty members at CVV-IST—Dr. Savitesh Madhulika Sharma, Professor and Director (R&D) Department of Electronics Engineering, Dr. Anand H. S, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Computer Science and Ms. Anupama Jims, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science and a student IEEE member Ms. Niveditha Nair, B.Tech. (AI/ML), was formed to oversee the establishment process, outlining the objectives, benefits, and long-term goals of the IEEE Student Branch at CVV.  The Branch started with the endorsement of a Petition by three faculty members and 15 students. The management provided full financial support for all IEEE members this year.
