Dr. Vinayak Rajat Bhat and Dr. L. Sampath Kumar Speak at the Sanskrit Divasa Mahotsava 2020 Celebrations

The IQAC and Department of Sanskrit of the Shri Shankarlal Sundarbai Shasun Jain College for Women, Chennai, conducted a webinar on the occasion of Samskrita Divasa Mahotsava 2020 on 25 July 2020, from 11.00 am to 3.00 pm.

Dr. L. Sampath Kumar, Assistant Professor and Head, School of Linguistics and Literary Studies at CVV and Dr. Vinayak Rajat Bhat, Assistant professor and Head of the School of Vedic Knowledge Systems at CVV, were invited as speakers. Dr. Sampath Kumar spoke on the ‘Relevance of Learning Bhasa’s Plays’ while Dr. Bhat spoke on the topic ‘Dinacarya’.

Bhasa, a celebrated Sanskrit poet is considered the father of Indian drama. He is extolled in unequivocal terms by great poets like Kalidasa. Bhasa’s greatness lies in his attempts at seeing the good in all. His works are loaded with human values. These values are relevant even today and help a person become a better citizen and a fellow human being. Dr. Sampath Kumar effectively brought out these points in his lecture. It was well-received by the students.


During this time of the COVID-19 pandemic, most people are interested in knowing whether Ayurveda has anything to say about dealing with such situations. Keeping this in mind, Dr. Bhat presented a gist of the pandemic situation, how it spreads and the precautionary measures provided by Ayurveda. He also explained the daily and seasonal routines that can help an individual protect him/her during such epidemics.
