Chhatrapati Shivaji Jayanti Celebrations

The students, faculty and staff of Chinmaya Vishwavidyapeeth (CVV) paid their tribute to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on his jayanti on 19 February 2022 with an inspiring event put together by student co-ordinators Avinash Chavan and Renuka Joshi, guided by Dr. Sampath Kumar (Assistant Professor and Head, School of Linguistics and Literary Studies).

The session had an auspicious beginning with the lighting of the lamp at the portrait of Shivaji Maharaj, led by Swami Sharadananda (Chinmaya International Foundation), accompanied by the faculty and student coordinators.

The highlight for the day were two inspirational and informative speeches – by Sri Jayant Sahasrabuddhe (Organising Director, Vijnana Bharati) and Dr. Gauri Mahulikar (Academic Director, CIF) on the topic ‘Chhatrapati Shivaji: A Great Warrior of Freedom’.

Both the speakers gave a 360-degree understanding of Shivaji Maharaj as a national icon who emphasized the idea of ‘swatva’ or regaining and establishing one’s national identity as Bharatiyas. We did not see Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj as just a warrior or ruler, but a visionary who is born once every 1000 years! It reinforced the ideals that we must dedicate every thought and deed to the revival of Sanatana Dharma.

The audience also witnessed two beautiful musical performances comprising of traditional yet powerful folklores on Maharaj by the students. The event concluded with a vote of thanks and energetic chants of ‘Jai Bhavani! Jai Shivaji!’
