A Career in Civil Services

On 2nd December 2020, the Internal Quality Assessment Committee (IQAC) of Chinmaya Vishwavidyapeeth (CVV) organised a career development talk for CVV’s MA PPG students on the topic ‘A Career in Civil Service’ from 3:00 to 5:30 pm. It was organised in collaboration with the Chinmaya Academy for Civil Services, Chennai, as a part of CVV’s career orientation programme for the students. Shri Rudhra Gangadharan IAS (Retd.), Former Director of the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration; Dr. S. Rammohan, IRAS (Rtd.), Ph.D., M.B.A., B.GL., Former Additional Member/Railway Board, (Special Secretary to the Government of India); and Shri V. Damodaran, B.Tech., M.B.A., Director of Chinmaya Academy for Civil Services, Former Executive Director, Indian Oil Corporation; were the guest speakers. Shri Sreenath Namboodiri, Assistant Professor at CVV’s School of Ethics, Governance, Culture and Social Systems (EGCS) introduced the guest speakers and welcomed everyone.

Shri Rudhra Gangadharan started the session by detailing the strengths of a career in the civil services and what it is to be a civil servant. He also mentioned how the selection process is stringent so that only the best are selected. He concluded his segment by talking about the techniques to prepare for the UPSC exam.

 

Next, Dr. S. Rammohan spoke on the various services one can take up under the broad title of civil services.

 

Shri V. Damodaran shared the uniqueness of the Chinmaya Civil Service Academy, Chennai and regarding the course structures of the academy.

 

The talk was followed by an interactive session. Smt. Abha Mohan, Assistant Professor, School of Contemporary Knowledge Systems (CKS) then spoke briefly about the various certificate programmes at CVV that can be earned along with training to answer the civil service exam. Ms. Supreeta Dattathri (first-year B.Sc. Applied Psychology), who was the Master of Ceremony, concluded the session with a Vote of Thanks.
