On 28 March 2021, a team of five students of Chinmaya Vishwavidyapeeth’s M.Sc. Applied Psychology programme accompanied by Dr. Kavita Shanmugan (Assistant Professor, School of Philosophy, Psychology and Scientific Heritage (PPSH)) and Ms. Sumedha Kulkarni (Manager – Student Recruitment) conducted a career guidance and counselling programme at Prajna Pratishthanam, the CVV facility on Warriam road, Ernakulam. This was a community service initiative by the School of PPSH and IQAC.
Students of class 12 who had got to know about the widely publicised initiative utilised the opportunity for free career counselling. There detailed interactions with the clients about their career choices. They came with a basic idea of what they wished to pursue for their undergraduate degree, but left with clarity about the field that was the best for them. The student counsellors employed techniques like the Comprehensive Interest Schedule (CIS) to provide the clients with descriptions of the various professions and fields available based on their educational qualifications and interests.
Post the sessions, an extensive discussion with Dr. Kavita provided the CVV students further insights into the process and other aspects related to counselling and the field of psychology. Overall, it was an excellent learning experience for our students.
