The Internal Quality Assessment Cell of Chinmaya Vishwavidyapeeth (CVV) organised a five-day Skill Development Programme from 27 to 31 July 2020 titled Campus to Corporate for the graduates of the 2017 batch. The resource persons were Mr. Vasuki H. V., Director of Chinmaya Institute of Management (CIM), Bengaluru and Ms. Shruthi Vasuki, Assistant Director, CIM. They have been running similar training sessions for many years now, which have garnered a lot of popularity and positive response.
The programme commenced with a prayer invoking Gods’ blessings by Sradha Hari, student of CVV's B.A. Sanskrit, 2017 batch. Dr. Sandhya Shankar, Faculty Coordinator for the programme, welcomed the gathering. Prof. Gauri Mahulikar, Dean of Faculty, shared her views and advised the participants to thank the almighty and make use of every opportunity that we get.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Nagaraj Neerchal in his presidential address thanked the resource persons for accepting the invitation. Further, he also pointed out that the students of CVV are privileged to attend and participate in sessions that focus on upskilling themselves. He also reiterated that this exercise will not yield the desired results in one go, and hence the students must consciously find time and put constant effort to polish their soft skills. Dr. Satish thanked all the faculty, staff (Media and IT) and students who had worked for the smooth conduct of the programme.
Mr. Vasuki and Ms. Shruthi through their five sessions emphasised the importance of workplace etiquettes, communication skills, time management and goal setting. In the first session, he focused on communication skills and its role and importance in developing self-confidence.
In the second session, Ms. Shruthi focused on presentation skills (Do’s and Don’ts) and the importance of understanding feelings and shared a few tips on how to deal with them. In the third session, Mr. Vasuki shared his personal experience and narrated a story emphasising the spirit of teamwork. In the fourth session, Ms. Shruthi shared certain rules on Group Discussion and helped the participants to prepare themselves for the interview. She then reviewed a couple of resumes and provided valuable inputs. Mr. Vasuki concluded the programme with the importance of having a goal for life. He stressed and advised the participants not to forget the fundamentals (SMART) while setting the goal.
The programme drew to a close with a valedictory function wherein Mr. Shanker Ramanathan, Director Placements, thanked everyone. Dr. Sreevalsakumar, Director IQAC, delivered the closing remarks. He opined that the degree certificate or transcript can help one to enter an organisation, however, soft skills go a long way in shaping one’s career path. The function ended with a vote of thanks by Ms. Jayalakshmi Nanda, Chief of Staff of Vice Chancellor.
