A group of 25 B.Sc. Applied Psychology (Hons.) third-year students embarked on an industrial visit from 3 to 7 September 2024 accompanied by faculties Dr. Satheesh Varma and Ms. Gopika Ramesh. Organised by the Student Development Cell of the School of PPSH, the industrial tour covering Manipal, Udupi, Coorg, and Chikkamagaluru was designed to integrate educational and cultural experiences with practical exposure.
The first stop was Manipal where they visited the Museum of Anatomy and Physiology (MAPS). The students explored comparative anatomy across species, including fish, birds, reptiles, and humans. The day’s activities continued with a visit to the Manipal Centre for Natural Science and its planetarium, where students broadened their comprehension of astronomy. The group then proceeded to the culturally significant Krishna Temple in Udupi. The day ended with recreational time at Malpe Beach.
The next day, they visited the Tibetan Nyondrang Monastery. This visit provided an opportunity to observe Vajrayana Buddhism in practice, contributing to their knowledge of the Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS). The students gained a deeper understanding of living Buddhism as practised within the Tibetan cultural tradition.
On 6 September, the group visited Halebidu where they explored the renowned Hoysaleshwara Temple. The visit to Belur’s Chennakeshava Temple, an active site of worship, provided further insights into the continuity of religious practices in India. Following this, the students travelled to Chikmagalur where they undertook a challenging jeep trekking experience. Enduring extreme winds and low temperatures, the group climbed 500 steps to the Mullayanagiri Temple. This physically demanding experience allowed the students to develop resilience and adaptability, skills crucial for coping with challenging environments and enhancing mental fortitude.
The group returned to campus on 7 September. The visit was a valuable learning experience for the students, offering them practical insights into the industry.
