A Talk on ‘Stories of Measuring Time’ from Ancient India

Glimpses from the expert talk delivered by Shri. Sudarshan HS, Research Associate specialising in Archaeo-Astronomy at the Centre for Ancient History and Culture, Jain Deemed-to-be-University, Bengaluru, on 25th October 2023, at Prajña Pratiṣṭānam (Warriam Road facility) of Chinmaya Vishwa Vidyapeeth.

The talk titled ‘Stories of Measuring Time’ wove the known tidbits about ancient Indian understanding and measurement of time along with many discoveries to introduce the fascinating world of observational astronomy that prevailed all across pre-modern India before the advent of printing, panchangam calenders, and clocks. It was in the context of the foundational course on Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) integral to all UG programmes of the university.

The talk was organised by the School of Psychology, Philosophy & Scientific Heritage of Chinmaya Vishwa Vidyapeeth and attended by students and members of faculty and staff of the university.
