A Musical Treat for Visitors from Chinmaya Mission Thane!

On 27th July 2024, the Thane Bala Vihar children, parents, Chyks, and Pre-Chyks were in for a delightful surprise during their visit to Chinmaya Vibhooti. The 50 campers, who spent an hour at CNBG, were split into two groups: one with children and the other with the rest.

For the adults, Smt. Pramodini Rao, Director, CNBG campus, shared a simple yet powerful technique to learn musical notes. By physically stepping on squares to represent different notes, the campers grasped the ascending and descending notes of the pentatonic Raag Bhoop. This simple method encouraged everyone to try their hand (or voice!) at singing. She also played classic movie songs in Raag Bhoop on the harmonium, getting participants to guess them, and making it an engaging session. The group learned a beautiful bhajan ‘Mere Man Upvan Mein’.

Ms. Shobha Iyer, in the other group, introduced the children to basic vocal exercises and taught them the bhajan ‘Mushkilein Ayegi’ with actions. This was followed by fun brain yoga exercises that the children loved. Both groups came together to learn and enjoy the feel of ‘rain’ with sounds made with their bodies.

The campers conveyed their heartfelt thanks for this short yet impactful musical retreat, which left a lasting impression on all.
