The students and staff of Chinmaya Vishwavidyapeeth (CVV) celebrated India’s 70th Constitution Day on 26th November 2019. The session was led by Dr. Nithin Ramakrishnan, Assistant Professor of Law at CVV.
After the opening prayer, the history of the formation of the legal framework and the Constitution was explained to all the participants, with emphasis on the significance of the fundamental rights and duties. Dr. Nithin explained that the Indian Preamble is distinct and arose from the values of the Indian Independence movement with the need for freedom of expression and decision making, for self and others. He also brought out the concept of Param and Purushartha. Para being the principality of otherness which gives importance to a legal system. The presence of others gives meaning to our rights.
Dr. Nithin went on to explain the Preamble to the Constitution, after which everyone took the Constitutional pledge. The celebration of the Constitution Day in the Parliament being telecast live on TV was screened. The inspiring programme ended with the singing of the National Anthem.
