Prof. Geervani has a Ph.D. in Food and Nutrition. She has served as Associate Professor, Professor of Nutrition for 20 years and as Dean for five years at Andhra Pradesh Agricultural University, Hyderabad; as a Vice Chancellor of Sri Padmavathi Mahila University, Tirupati. She has been a member of the Academic Council and Syndicate of a few universities and a Member and/or chairperson of the NAAC team of over 25 universities.
She has completed over 20 research projects funded by the Ministry of Agriculture; Women and Child Welfare; Science and Technology, Government of India; FAO, UNICEF, European Union, International Development Research Council and Government of Andhra Pradesh. She has published over a hundred research papers and a few book chapters.
As a consultant of the FAO of the United Nations, she worked on implementing and monitoring a multi-sector project for combating Vitamin A malnutrition in Nepal during 1991-94 and was successful in reducing the problem. In 1991 she received the ‘Liguria’ International Award of 16000 USD for the development of ‘Technology for Child Health and Nutrition’.
She is a Fulbright Scholar, a Fellow of the United Nations University, Tokyo, a Fellow of the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences, India and an active member of the Indian Women Scientists Association of India, the Dietetics Association of India, and the Nutrition Society of India.
Post retirement she worked on translating the Valmki Ramayana into English along with five commentaries, with a grant from MHRD, executed through the National Sanskrit University, Tirupati and published.
