Mr. Yugandhar Rajendra Dhande is a multidisciplinary professional with expertise in both Mechanical Engineering and Data Science. He holds an M.Tech. in Data Science from the Indian Institute of Technology, Palakkad and a B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering from Vishwakarma Institute of Technology, Pune. His experience bridges the gap between mechanical engineering principles and advanced data-driven techniques, particularly in machine learning, deep learning, and computer vision applications.
Yugandhar has made notable contributions in the field of data science, with his M.Tech. thesis focusing on ‘Dimension and Depth Estimation from Monocular 2D RGB Images’. This work leverages architectures such as MiDAS, ZoeDepth, and Deep3DGeometric for generating 3D bounding boxes and depth maps from 2D images, providing groundbreaking methods for accurate spatial analysis using minimal visual data.
In addition to his academic accomplishments, Yugandhar has successfully applied machine learning to real-world problems, including predictive modelling for company bankruptcy, AI-enhanced medical diagnostics, and video action classification. His interdisciplinary approach, combining data science and mechanical engineering, allows him to tackle challenges across industries with a unique perspective.
He is deeply committed to using data science not just for theoretical solutions but for real-world impact. Whether it’s predicting financial risks, improving healthcare diagnostics, or designing efficient mechanical systems, he’s passionate about finding meaningful patterns and making the world a little smarter through technology.
When not immersed in data, you’ll find him practicing yoga or volunteering to teach computer literacy to the elderly, helping bridge the digital divide.

Dimension and Depth Estimation from Monocular 2D RGB Images
Yugandhar’s M.Tech. thesis project focuses on estimating object dimensions and depth from 2D RGB images. This involves generating 3D bounding boxes and depth maps using advanced architectures like MiDAS and ZoeDepth. His research provides valuable insights into spatial reasoning with minimal visual input, with potential applications in robotics, surveillance, and autonomous vehicles.
Company Bankruptcy Prediction
In this project, Yugandhar developed a machine learning model to predict company bankruptcy based on financial data. Using algorithms such as Random Forest and XGBoost, the model identifies early warning signs of financial distress, offering actionable insights to stakeholders.
AI-Enhanced Detection of White Blood Cells in Blood Smears
Yugandhar developed an AI-driven system for the detection of white blood cells in blood smears, utilising YOLOv3 and Faster R-CNN architectures. This project enhances the accuracy of medical diagnoses, potentially aiding in the early detection of diseases.
Deciphering Human Actions in Video
In this project, Yugandhar implemented a human action recognition system that classifies activities in videos using CNN and LSTM architectures, enhanced with attention mechanisms. This system has applications in surveillance and behavior analysis.
ASK PKD Chatbot Development
He developed a chatbot for IIT Palakkad’s website using LLaMA 2 and LlamaIndex, improving responses to frequently asked questions by integrating real-time data retrieval.
Analysing Tweets for Character Profiling
Developed a system for predicting individual personality traits from Twitter tweets. Utilised NLTK, TF-IDF, and Word2Vec. Applied machine learning models like Logistic Regression, Naive Bayes, and SVM for enhanced prediction accuracy.
