Dr. Deepu Benson is a dedicated researcher specializing in Graph Algorithms, Computational Complexity Theory, and Artificial Intelligence. He holds a PhD in Computer Science and Engineering from IIT Palakkad. He also completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Computational Complexity Theory at IIT Gandhinagar. With approximately seven years of research experience, Dr. Deepu has made significant contributions to the field of graph theory, particularly in its applications to operations research. The Theoretical Computer Science group at IIT Palakkad, of which he was a member, currently holds the best-known upper bound for the oriented diameter of undirected graphs. The group also has the best-known bounds for the oriented radius and diameter of mixed multigraphs.
Dr. Deepu has been teaching computer science to undergraduate and postgraduate students for more than eight years and is currently serving as an Assistant Professor at Chinmaya Vishwa Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University), Ernakulam, a position he has held since August 2024. His previous academic roles include positions at Amal Jyothi College of Engineering, Kanjirappally; AWH Engineering College, Calicut; St. Joseph’s College of Engineering and Technology, Palai; and Sree Narayana Guru College of Engineering and Technology, Payyanur.
Dr. Deepu has actively contributed to the academic community through numerous paper presentations at esteemed national and international conferences. Notable presentations include the 15th International Computer Science Symposium in Russia (CSR 2020) in June 2020 and the 9th International Conference on Communication Systems and Networks (COMSNETS) in January 2017. His scholarly contributions extend to various publications in national and international journals. Notable publications include an article titled “An Improvement to Chvátal and Thomassen’s Upper Bound for Oriented Diameter” in the journal Discrete Applied Mathematics (DAM) in December 2021 and an article titled “Improved Bounds for the Oriented Radius of Mixed Multigraphs” in the Journal of Graph Theory (JGT) in August 2023. In addition to his research and teaching endeavors, Dr. Deepu has participated in several workshops and professional development programs, including the Induction Training Programme on Teaching Excellence and Methodologies for Teachers of Engineering Colleges, sponsored by ISTE Kerala Section; the National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) Kerala Workshop, organized by Government College of Engineering, Kannur & Chinmaya Institute of Technology, Kannur; and various workshops on theoretical computer science, software tools, and programming languages. Dr. Deepu qualified the UGC-NET in Computer Science and Applications in 2014. He has qualified the GATE exam seven times and the Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST) three times. His Erdős number is 3.
Dr. Deepu is an avid science and technology communicator. He has written more than 75 articles in various science and technology magazines. Dr. Deepu is a passionate social worker and a founding member of the Galilean Educational & Charitable Trust in Kannur, Kerala. The organization aims to help children suffering from neurodevelopmental challenges such as Down syndrome, autism, and cerebral palsy, as well as victims of Endosulfan poisoning. Dr. Deepu believes in the use of free and open-source technology in special education. Currently, he is leading a group of volunteers who are working to customize an app called Cboard, which is used in special education.
Dr. Deepu’s commitment to advancing knowledge in Graph Algorithms and Complexity Theory, along with his dedication to education, makes him a highly valuable member of the academic community.
