Master Anandan, a 10-year-old boy from Kadavanthra, Ernakulam, has shown extraordinary resilience in the face of Type 2 Spinal Muscular Atrophy, a condition that prevents him from walking. Despite the challenges posed by his condition, Anandan has proven to be an exceptionally talented and studious child, excelling in various fields such as academics, music, and drawing.
Last year, his family approached Arjavam Clinic, an initiative of the NSS and SEVA units of CVV, seeking assistance. In response, our dedicated volunteers conducted a successful Rs. 10 fund drive, collected donations, and gifted his mother with a much-needed scooter in June 2022 to help her take him around.
Recently, Anandan’s mother reached out to us, expressing her difficulty in carrying him while walking. For instance, beyond school, she must also transport him to the Physiotherapy Centre, which is located 6 km away from their home. In response, the Arjavam Clinic stepped up again and raised funds to present Anandan with an electric wheelchair. This will not only enhance his mobility but also significantly help his family.
The electric wheelchair will be presented to Anandan at a small function on 8th December 2023.
