Description:

Chinmaya Vishwavidyapeeth (CVV) announces the launch of its Ph.D programme, for the academic year 2019-2020. This is a call to committed and sharp young scholars for cutting edge interdisciplinary research questions that integrate Indic wisdom with contemporary knowledge systems. As a ‘De Novo’ Institution, the focus of the Chinmaya Vishwavidyapeeth (CVV) Ph.D programme is on original and cutting edge research that:

  • Highlights the Indic Wisdom traditions and its unique insight into knowledge, methods and applications
  • Integrates the insights from the Indic Wisdom tradition with modern streams of thought and applications thereof 
  • Any other disciplinary or interdisciplinary research that investigates a national or a human concern

The Ph.D programme will follow the UGC guidelines, with a mandatory 16 credit course work.

 

Course Structure

Course Work & Credit Details

Course Work Details:
A course work of 16 credits is a requirement for Ph.D program. All Ph.D scholars shall undertake and complete the Ph.D Course Work of 240 hours of both contact and self-study which may be conducted over one semester or in a modular fashion spread over two semesters.

The candidates will take the following four courses:

  • A four-credit course on theoretical and application frameworks in Indian Knowledge Traditions (IKT), this will be mandatory for all scholars, including part-time scholars.
  • A four credit course on Research Methodology which shall cover areas such as quantitative methods, qualitative and textual research methods, computer applications and research ethics.
  • A four credit advanced seminar course in the candidate’s areas of research and specialization.
  • The candidate will need to take an additional course or a set of courses for a total of four credits from any of the core or minor courses taught in CVV.

Eligibility Criteria

A candidate seeking admission to the Ph.D programme shall satisfy any one of the following eligibility requirements: 

  • A Master's degree or a professional degree declared equivalent to the Master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 60% marks in aggregate or its equivalent.  
  • Candidates who have successfully completed the M.Phil. Degree with 55% marks or its equivalent.
  • Master's degree or equivalent in any subject with 60% marks plus minimum of three years of work experience in the area of interdisciplinary research in which admission is being sought.
  • International candidates (NRIs, Foreign Nationals and PIOs who have obtained Master's degree from foreign universities), whose post-secondary education is not in English are required to qualify IELTS or equivalent English language exam with 6.5 score or an equivalent test for English language proficiency. Similarly, candidates seeking admission in other Indian languages, proficiency in that language will be assessed by suitable internal test conducted by CVV. 
  • Any other candidate, who by virtue of publications or work experience prove to the Academic Council of CVV, that he/she possesses equivalent academic qualifications to the criteria mentioned above. 

A relaxation of 5% of marks, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-abled and other categories of candidates advised by the UGC and accepted by Academic Council of CVV will be granted. 
Admission criteria is liable for periodic review by the competent authority in CVV.

All part-time Chinmaya VishwaVidyapeeth (CVV) internal candidates registering for Ph.D. program shall be entitled to get 50% concession in all fees except course work fees.
Fee concessions to JRF/JRF/RA/ARF/SARF and scholars from where CVV has MoU are allowed by the university on case to case basis.
