The LLM in Legal Theory is a unique program that offers an array of select theoretical courses on Law. We approach legal theory to include critical reflection on issues in domestic as well as international law that integrates methodologies and perspectives from several disciplines such as legal history, political philosophy, cultural anthropology, political economy, social and political psychology, public policy, feminist legal theory, critical legal theory, Indic knowledge systems and Indology etc. to gain a multidimensional understanding of legal problems.  The program builds on collaborative efforts of the different departments of the Chinmaya University and creates an excellent opportunity for interdisciplinary engagement with leading scholars from India and abroad in a lively intellectual community. The program is a highly distinctive course centered on lectures and seminars delivered by some of the most leading theorists designed for highly motivated students who wish to seek a career in academia.

Exit Criteria

A student should complete all the core and foundational courses, along with 3 elective courses chosen separately from each group. Further, he needs to submit a dissertation and defend his thesis in an open viva-voce. Internships or research assignments may also be prescribed by the School from time to time. 

Programme Fee
  • INR 60,000 per annum for Day Scholars.
  • INR 1,60,000 per annum for Residential Students.
  • USD 3,800 per annum for International Residential Students.

Caution Deposit and Semester 1 Fee

Every candidate selected for admission at Chinmaya Vishwavidyapeeth will be required to deposit an amount of INR 10,000 towards caution deposit and the first-semester programme fees in order to confirm his/her offer of admission by the acceptance deadline as specified in the offer letter.
